Why is this part so difficult to get (AT90S2313-10PC)?

All of the distributors are out of stock that I have contacted. The earliest that I have been quoted (100 pieces) is June 2001. I guess that I can use AT90S1200A-12PC, but I will not be able to expand my program in the future due to the smaller memory size.

Is Atmel having manufacturing problems with this AVR?

Hi John,

Atmel is not having manufacturing problems with this AVR, and the chip is available from the fab. Could you send a mail to avr@atmel.com with your whereabouts? Then I'll put you in contact with a local FAE who can handle this.

Hi all AVR people,

when looking for AVR (or any other component ;-)) always look at:

www.findchips.com
or
www.usbid.com
The first one mines on online shopping distributor sites (mainly USA), the second one mines on non-online shops too and, the most, gets stocks even for European little distributors.
Last Genuary I purchased 2343s from gd-techniks (UK).

I too have found that small quantities of this chip are difficult to come by. My first one I ordered some time ago from Maplin in the UK, but all their Atmel stuff is now discontinued.

However, I ordered a few from Dontronics (http://www.dontronics.com) in Australia recently, and they arrived within a week and postage was only $10 (Australian dollars). Don also sells a range of evaluation boards, SIMMsticks, programmers, etc.

I buy Atmel chips from a shop in Berlin. They sell in all quantities (=> 1). Don't know about exporting to foreign countries.

Thanks for all of the replies!
I am in the USA. I normally purchase in small quantities (<100) from Digi-Key or Allied Electronics. They gave me long lead times on this AVR and the only place that I could find them was in very small quantities at high prices. Even the local distributors of Atmel here in Dayton, Ohio had long lead times (April to June 2001).
Thanks for the links of usbid.com and findchips.com these were very helpful, I can use them in the future.
