My question is for AVR Support Team

The ATmega163 Data Sheet Figure 2 does not show possibility to
generate a clock for external devices, using 1 HC buffer, as for
AT90S8535. Is it skipped knowingly and so one cannot use ATmega163 for pin-to-pin enhancement of AT90S8535?

Thank you.

Hi Varuzhan,

The AT90S8535 and the ATmeg163 are pin compatible :) The HC buffer has been omitted from the new datasheet because the buffer limits have never been part of the device test. Our IC design engineers thought that Figure 2 in the '8535 datasheet might suggest we guaranteed the correct operation of the external buffer, though it was never meant as nothing more than a note for developers with this use already in mind.

The omission of the HC buffer from Figure 2 has no effect for the developer. The operation of the ATmega163 is equal to that of the AT90S8535 on this matter.
