Hello All,

I have been looking into project #135,"avr-osd" regarding text overlay on video.

I am not too familiar with assembler, so looking at the code of this project some questions arise:
Is the processor capable of doing other things(e.g do readout ADC,-SPI and I2C slaves)or is lots of time wasted sleeping/waiting for the sync?

FYI:I would like to implement this on a bigger AVR (M644).
If not can this also be done with a Mega8 instead of mega 16 as listed in the project?

Thanks in advance.

Peter

I have not looked at this particular project, but I have worked with video on the AVR in the past. There is plenty of time during vertical blanking to do things. With ADC, you could start the conversion on one scan line and read it one or two scan lines latter. SPI master should be easy as well. SPI slave and I2C might have timing problems, but if you are careful that could work as well.

dontronics.com has a board which can do OSD.
DT008 or DT108, I think.

Look at the MAX7456 OSD chip with SPI. You cant get it any more simple. http://www.diamantic.com/project...
