I want to program attiny816 using Atmel ICE, but I think I need to activate UPDI first using 12v puls, and I would appreciate if anyone can help explaining how to do that.
thank you in advance
12V pulse is only needed if you disabled UPDI (and the Atmel-ICE cannot generate a 12V pulse). As long as you don't disable (or put GPIO) on the UPDI pin it just works.
(yes, I work for Atmel, yes, I do this in my spare time, now stop sending PMs)
it is a new chip, and I tried to connect it to Atmel ICE. using "6-pin 100-mil connector" I connected :
- Pinout 2 ( voltage ) to Attiny816 pin 1 (VDD).
- Pinout 6 (GND) to Attiny816 pin 20 (GND).
- Pinout 1 (TDO) to Attiny816 pin 16 (UPDI).
is UPDI by default activated for new chips?
Have you remebered to provide power to the chip (the Atmel-ICE only senses voltage, it does not provide it)?
thank you for your support. it worked after supplying power to the chip via another board. for those who might need help like me:
- Pinout 2 ( voltage ) to Attiny816 pin 1 (VDD) - both connected to external power 3.3v
Now, I can proceed implementing my project
