Hey everyone. I'm working with the AT32UC3C-EK board, trying to get a virtual COM port going on the USB_VCP (J27) connector. My PC is running Windows XP SP3.

When I connect the board to the PC's USB it comes up as an unknown device in device manager. I've tried updating the driver by pointing it at the at32uc3xxx_cdc.inf file and I tried downloading a 3rd party driver. The PC never figures out what the device is, though. Let me know if you have any ideas for getting my PC to recognize the board as a COM port. Thanks!

There’s no other driver than the at32uc3xxx_cdc.inf, which should work.

Make sure that your AVR32 program uses the same USB VID and PID as the .inf (0x03EB and 0x2307).

I don't have control over the VID and PID for this. There is an AT32UC3B between the USB port and the AT32UC3C that I am programming. That UC3B is pre-programmed with UART to USB firmware. Is there some way to see what VID and PID it uses without having the firmware?

UPDATE: In device manager open the properties for the device, then the details tab. The VID and PID show up there. My board is using VID: 03EB and PID: 2310. I edited the .inf file with the new PID and it works.

Thanks very much for the help!

Be very afraid! 0x03eb is atmel's vendor id, and they are free to assign 0x2310 product id to any USB device. Associating the wrong VID/PID with a device can kill Windows. It would be worthwhile to investigate why it was seemingly wrong.

Have a look at this list of USB IDs: 03EB|2310 is usually used for the EVK11xx evaluation boards. If you ever connect one of those, it might not work as expected.

I can't find my copy of the edited .inf or even the original right now. If you can find that and paste it up here I will help you out. Windows 7 treats drivers a bit differently than XP, so we may still have problems.

I am having the same issue, I check the VID is 03EB and the PID is 2310. Still unknown in the device manager? What do I do to get virtual com port to work?

Thanks.

Here is the update:

I download ASF version 2.9 from the following link:

http://www.atmel.com/tools/UC3C-...

After extracting the files the USB driver for the UC3C-EK board will be in the following path:

I used the driver here \..\ASF\asf-standalone-archive-2.9.0\asf-2.9.0\avr32\services\usb\_asf_v1\class\cdc\examples\driver

I then had to edit the .inf file to use the PID of 2310 instead of 2307. I found the currently used PID by checking in device manager.

The virtual com port is working now!

Hi AVR Freak,

We are trying to test the general USB transmission with At32UC3C-EK board to PC. Some systems are properly and some systems device driver(at32uc3xxx_cdc.inf) doesn't install properly, but those are some configuration(Windows - XP OS). Any sequence would be there for CDC driver installation. Please share your valuable suggestion about the issue.

Thanks,

Where can the CDC drivers for 32-bit Windows XP be found?

Maybe the question is wrong.

Why doesn't the stock Windows CDC driver work with the USB stack?
