Hello all,

I am trying to install Studio 7 (web installer) and everything appeared to go well until after the reboot. I got a blank Studio 7 window. When I tried to close it, it asked "Do you want to cancel?". I said yes.

In the start menu, there is no reference to Atmel or Studio 7 so Win 7 64 bit doesn't think anything is installed, and yet under add/remove programs Atmel Studio 7 is listed. When I select
uninstall or change, I get the same Atmel Studio 7 splash screen and then the same blank Studio7 window, so I can't even uninstall it and start again.

If try to re-run the web installer, I get the same splash screen and then a blank window.

I have downloaded the full install, but I haven't run it. Thought I would see what you guys say first.

Some how the install is in limbo, installed but not installed and I'm stuck. My Google Fu is pretty good but I have found nothing, zip, nada on Studio 7 & install probs.

Any advice welcome. Go back to a previous version? I would still like to kill all the files and reg entries for 7, but I don't want to do it by hand if I don't have to.

Also, am I even installing the right stuff? I just want an AVR IDE with more power and features than Arduino, but I was surprised that it started loading .net 4.6 and Visual studio. (I am assuming uSoft VS).

Is that just for the interface or have I loaded much more than I need, or want?

Thanks in advance, any suggestions most welcome and appreciated.

Thanks for the suggestion, but it just happens that I did that about a week ago, unrelated to this.

I have removed all files and registry entries related to Atmel and both the web installer and the full off line installer now run, but they hang up on the same error:

Source file not found: C:\ProgramData\Package Cache\{long hash value}v7.0.594\7.0\Extensions\Application\AVRAssemblyLanguage.dll

The folder with the long hash value does not exist, so of course, the .dll does not exist. Apparently, the installer is not extracting/creating this or any other file.

Any idea why?

BTW, it would be a nice touch if a person could cut and paste the error message from the progress window.

It would bring Atmel right up into the 20th century.

Hi,

It could be the registry entries of the installer got corrupted in order to fix it. Do the following:
Run Fix it https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/mats/program_install_and_uninstall
Select Detect problems and let me select the fixes to apply
Select Installing for the question Are you having a problem with installing or uninstalling?
Fix the products like Atmel Studio IDE 7.0 etc.

Also once it is uninstalled from the system properly try running the web installer, If you get a blank screen then

  1. Run Command prompt as administrator and run Atmel Studio web installer in passive mode as-installer-7.0.594-web.exe  -passive  –log logpassive.txt [This should take it to the progress screen directly]
  2. If the above step fails run Command prompt as administrator and run Atmel Studio web installer in silent mode as-installer-7.0.594-web.exe  -quiet  –log logquiet.txt [This should install Studio in silent mode]

Please attach the logs.

Regards,

Charles

Hi !

I've got a similar "blank screen" problem.

But it shows right after starting the web or full installer.

I do not even get a log.

With neither -passive nor -quiet ...

Strange.

MS FixIt did not show up anything from Atmel.

Nor did it find any other errors.

I just tried to repair MS Visual Studio Shell 2015 shell, but it hung.

Did now remove it.

Will Studio re-install it, or should I get the redistributable?

Found https://www.microsoft.com/en-US/...

->

Which language? Is Atmel expecting english and accepting English only?

Thanks!

Andi

1) Can you delete "as-bootstrapper-external.exe" from C:\ProgramData\Package Cache\{06419e61-0d52-426d-9b3d-32e57439bb44}.

2) If the folder is not present, can you search for as-bootstrapper-external.exe in C:\ProgramData\Package Cache and delete.

2) Uninstall the Atmel Studio 7.0 from Add\Remove Programs. It will give a pop up saying Would you like to remove Atmel Studio 7.0 from the Programs and Features list? Click Yes.

3) Click on installer again then take appropriate action whether to install or repair.

If you have an error still attach the log from %temp%\AtmelStudio_7.0.634

In my case, the web installer went thru until it said to reboot.  I rebooted the machine and then got the blank Atmel Studio Window.

I would like to ask for urgent help - I spent the whole day installing the new as-installer-7.0.1417-full.exe

The result is like posted before the empty installation window with the ability to exit..

I discovered that explorer.exe was called before and used up much CPU for a longer time -  when it finally stopped, the empty window appeared..

Within the logfiles I did not find anything problematic..  - I attached the last logfile here..

All recommendations have been followed:

- I deleted bootstrap folder, deinstalled all microsoft visual studio shells and redistributables (except a very old 2008).

- The microsoft repair tool did not bring anything interesting up tool

- an console installation with -quiet did not bring any results (installer was in task bar with 0% cpu usuage for a long time)

Also an earlier version is not installable anymore:   as-installer-7.0.1188-full

one day ago I installed an old studio4  (AvrStudio4Setup_4.19)  , which might have to do with the issue   - the program is already deinstalled, also all USB drivers related to it..

actually there are no atmel products installed anymore on this computer.

For microsoft products I attached a jpg, which show the list of installations there..

Can anybody tell me which other dependencies the program might have, so I can delete them?

I do really need a fresh installation of the latest AtmelStudio because I do need to start a project with AtTiny816 next week.

Any help you could give is highly appreciated!

One more thing I could find out

the setup from avr studio 6.1  seems to work - just 7.0 is not working anymore

Do I really have to reinstall my whole computer because of this?

I used Studio for several years, never had such problems..

please let me know what I can do to clean the system up, so installation does not find anything it could be disturbed from

thank you very much in advance

Just some general questions:
Up to date with Windows Update?
Which .Net version(s) are installed?
Tried turning off anti-viral software during install?
Tried running the installer as Administrator?

I have no recent windows updates - this could be a reason..

.net: Framework:  4.6.1   and a second 4.6.1 in german..

anti viral software is a good point - I will try this

the installation was also executed as administrator - several times; it did not bring any noticeable changes

thank you for the 2 good points- I will see what I can do with win update and with antivirus :)

Thank you very much so far for all the answers...

After de-installing my anti virus software (because it was not working to fully deactivate all functions), my computer crashed and even system restore was not able to recover it

So it looks like I am choosing alternative 2 - to completely setup my machine again and install everything from scratch.

Hopefully it will work then -  first having to meet the prerequisites  win7SP1 and 2 :)

thank you and if problems persist, I can update this forum with bug reports from a fresh installed machine

OT / Side note: I use a disk imaging program to have copies of known good states of my system. A normal backup can't do that, and uninstalls on Windows can (as you've experienced) mess things up.

I'm using Clonezilla on a bootable USB stick. Not the prettiest user interface, but it works. Clonezilla does "full disk to image" and "selected partition(s) to image", and of course also can restore them.

Images go onto an external 2 TB USB disk. Expect very roughly 1 hour per 100 GB of actually used disk space.

I simply leave the computer doing that overnight, or while I'm out mowing the lawn or...

(Of-course I also do normal "daily" backups of my data.)

Recently, I've become meticulous keeping a "maintenance log" where I note all significant changes to my systems. What, when, web-links to where I got the stuff, how I did it, where my local copies of install files etc are. That maintenance log also has notes on when disk and partition images where taken. It'll probably get out of hand, but at least it gives me a feeling of being in control.

There are alternatives to Clonezilla. In the past, when I had access to a legal license, I used Norton Ghost - which runs on Windows. The advantage with Clonezilla is that it runs from it's own minimal Linux on the USB stick. It images any ubiquitous type of partition (Windows, Linux...).

Thank you JohanEkdahl for pointing to Clonezilla,

I also use a tool to restore the disks easely - driveimage xml , which I also created a bootable stick with a BartPE windows on (where I can run restores of my backups)

Unfortunately I discovered that when I did the backup the last time (a few years ago), I had different partition size because I later splitted one partition into 2..

So this left a very annoyed feeling in my stomach - because this time I am unable to use it (one requirement is the exact size of the partitions... )

As most of the programs I am using are external (portable) programs, I don't have to install thousands of applications - more or less just the development tools I sent screenshots from :)

Therefore it won't take weeks to roll back the whole system, just maybe a day..

anyhow, thank you for the program information- I will also take a look to clonezilla and see if it has any other benefits for me.

wish you a nice day :)

Hi,

i had the same problem with the empty splash screen.

Atme Studio Version: as-installer-7.0.1417-full.exe

My solution:

* install the previous version from the Studio Archive:

http://www.atmel.com/tools/studi...

Version: Atmel Studio 7.0 (build 1188) web installer

The Installer asks if a newer (available) version should be used => NO
