I am migrating our company from NXP processors to the ATSAMC21G17A.  I have successfully done development on the Xplained Pro and am now in the prototype phase.  I ordered samples back in June and was told they would be in my hands July 20th.  They never came and now I am told Atmel has no sample stock to give and has no intention of supplying samples until production orders have been filled which won't be until November.  In my 25 years as an embedded engineer I have never heard of such a thing.  I am supposed to place an order for 2500 parts without prototyping?  Is anyone out there experiencing similar problems with the C21 series?

It seems that this chip isn't available before November at all.

Look at this link: http://www.microchipdirect.com/P...

If you really need samples and the y are available than contact your local microchip/atmel distributor and ask for it. Maybe they have some on stock.

my advice from my 30 years of experience with semicconductor companies: : don't plan with availability until Digikey or one of the other distributors have silicium on stock!

Unfortunately when I started this design in June, that same link said August.  I am working with the factory rep directly who was supposed to have samples July 20.  Now he's told there just aren't samples to be had.  I agree with your advice on Digikey and others (like Mouser) on being the tell tale for production availability, but I'm astonished that samples aren't available pre-production for development/prototypes.  I can deal with November for production but not prototyping.  There's nothing I can do about it now other than gripe......

Thank you Lars!!!  Looks like the only difference is Flash/RAM size.  I am getting 25 of the TQFP parts in right away.
