Hi,

I am interested in building a custom USB device utilising AVR in order to control music software such as Ableton Live.    My project is still in the planning phase.

I have a reasonable understanding of how to assign external controls to Ableton.   However, my question is how do I get information out of packages like Ableton in order to drive custom LEDs and other display elements on my custom controller ?

Sorry if I have posted this in the wrong place... or even on the wrong site.   I thought here might be a good place to start.

Any help would be gratefully received.

Kind regards.

Edit... I was looking for responses from people that actually had experience in this area; not theorise, point to help-me links and otherwise obfuscate any productive contribution; hence the post in general electronics.  I thought that would be intuitively obvious, but it wasn't.   Thank you for closing this topic before taking any real consideration of the requirements of the original poster.

Is that not something you might better be asking Ableton ?

They designed the software so they should know what things they make/have availabe externally for you to get into.

My best guess is that every vendor of this kind of firmware might have either done his own thing, or they will tell you that they adhere to an industry standard......

Absolutely!

My best guess is that every vendor of this kind of firmware

It's application software - not firmware:

It seems to be connecting to standard musical equipment & instruments - so I'd guess it'd be using industry standards like MIDI ...

But, again, you really need to talk to Ableton about that.

Their site seems to talk a lot about "community" - so take them up on that ... !
