The Xbee interface is a simple usart. Connext the Tx pin of your AVR to the RX pin of the Xbee. Connect the RX pin of the AVR to the TX pin of the Xbee. Thats pretty much it.

The xbee only runs on 3.3v so you will need to run the AVR on the same voltage or use level translators.

The Xbee modules out of the box are set up as broadcast mode so you should be able to get going right away.

Just to AVR, or also to microcontrollers in general?

And programming in general?

For getting started with AVR  (or, in fact, any microcontroller) programming, see: http://www.avrfreaks.net/comment...

The best place to go for that would be to look for Arduino Projects & Tutorials

If you have purchased an Xbee kit which comes with two modules. Two Grove boards and the usb cables you would use the XCTU software to configure them

But the units themselves default in broadcast mode out of the box so there is no need to configure anything to get a link going. All you need is Vcc Gnd Tx and Rx
