Microsoft released Update 1 for Visual Studio 2015 on November 30, 2015. After having installed it I’m getting a long list of errors while opening Atmel Studio 7. Re-installing Atmel Studio 7 (build 634) together with Visual Studio 2015 Shell did not fix the problem

I have attached Activity log.

Hello

Same problem for me

I am running on VS2015 Express for Desktop.

I tried uninstall and reinstalling AS7 and VS2015, no success.

Error is "unable to load assembly 'System.Collections.Immutable, Version=1.1.36.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a'"

Best regards

We're already looking into this (ref AVRSV-7146). The RC1 version of the Update had some nasty issues that have been fixed, but we're still working on how to solve the Collections issue.

So, a workaround has been found for this:

  1. Download System.Collections.Immutable version 1.1.36 from nuget
  2. Extract the file (it's a zip file), go to \lib\<name>\ and copy the System.Collections.Immutable.dll file into <studio installation dir>\Extensions\Application

We're still working on a better workaround, but this should get you going again until we can find out what Microsoft broke in the 1.1.37 version (and why their redirects are wrong).

I have the same issue, although if you uninstall VS 2015.1 then reinstall the Atmel Studio it will work, the only problem is that they cannot co-exist. Please let us know when a fix will be available.

Hello

Thanks for the workaround too.

Unfortunately i am no more able to test the workaround. I restored my computer to a version of VS 2015 without the update.

Here's an excellent alternative to Atmel Studio. Also free.

The workaround worked for me after I launched Atmel Studio as Administrator (Windows 10 x86 OS). Consequent launches worked without having to run as Administrator.

Thank you,

Eugene

Caveat: This is *NOT* a solution, but rather a work-around.

I also encountered a huge number of issues (over the past couple of years) after having installed VS 2013 Pro, various versions of VS Express, and Atmel Studio 6 then Atmel Studio 7. The issues got so bad that I couldn't even cleanly uninstall either VS x or AS 7; I spent many hours in registry hacking to get rid of the leftover trash from both Microsoft and Atmel.

The workaround (after getting an Intel Core i7 laptop with 16 GB and capable of reasonable performance: using Hyper-V Manager included with Windows 10 Pro, I created a clean VM. On the host laptop, I installed AS 7 (so that it could reach the USB-based device programmers) and VS 2015 Community on the VM (since it can't reach the USB-based device programmers).

It's far from ideal, but it does work to keep the two IDEs from stepping on each other.

Can't get 1.1.36 from Nuget (at least not in VS2015). Problem is due to wrong version in config file. See jurgs' solution below. http://www.avrfreaks.net/comment/1801781#comment-1801781
