As far as I can see both your device manager pictures show a yellow exclamation mark which suggests the driver has not installed correctly.

Isn't it rather obvious that

i) when you tried to install the drivers it failed, and

ii) it failed because it's signature wasn't in good order

(I know, I'm just quoting what is in the message, but since the above posts does not seem to recognize even what the messages says...)

So, the driver still isn't installed.

What driver did you try to install? Where did you get it from?

Could it be that the driver is actually intended for other hardware than the one you have built? (E.g. for another USB-to-serial bridge, expecting a vendor id different from the one your device is reporting). Or that you got the driver from a "rogue" site and it has actually been altered to do malicious stuff?

What is your previous experience working with USB?

If you want help rather than speculations you'll likely need to show people here your code too. (Can we guess that it is a variant of e.g. V-USB?)

For the "hope many will try it", my guess (and advice) is to not build this but simply buy one of the ready-built devices, available for just a dollar or two. E.g.: http://www.ebay.com/itm/CP2102-U...http://www.ebay.com/itm/CP2102-M...http://www.ebay.com/itm/USB2-0-t... ... That was just a few links picked at random from this EBay search: http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_...

That website "suggests" that their driver is for XP or Vista. Which version of Windows are you using?

What VID/PID pair are you using? Perhaps a driver for that pair was already installed for some other USB device and windows decided that it doesn't like your version.

extra: It might be helpful for you to try the usb utility at http://www.usblyzer.com/
