You have not connected anything to pin 3 of the LCD display. This is "usually" connected to a potentiometer for adjusting the display's contrast.

Hmmm..
I wasa not saying he ripped the idea off. Carl used the same part for the same thing except he did not support i2c or spi.

If I remember correctly, I used all of PB7:PB0 to control the LCD and LED backlight. I had a level converter between the PCB RxD connector pin and RxD on the ATtiny 2313.

Even if my design was lifted, mass produced and sold for profit, I placed i the thing in the public domain when means I no longer have any control over what happens - my one and only gift to the world, I suppose...

I'm actually thinking about a re-do of the MyLCD project, adding Tx & Rx interrupts and Tx & Rx buffers of up to 256 bytes per side and an improved LCD driver.  Of course, then, I won't be using an ATTiny2313.  More likely, I'll be using an ATMega328P.

 

I'm still not too keen on adding TWI or other connection interfaces as, I mostly use RS232 and TTL interfaces.
