The "send" source would just be the power rail supplying the LED anodes.  The returns would be individual per LED, at a max of 120mA each, for 16 LEDs....

I did not find any examples, as it appears to be a protected protocol.  you will have to contact the maker of your encoder for help with interfacing....

Often a decaying average is enough. But if you do not want to have any historical data after a given number of sampls, the simple moving average is better...
